Tourism EPoS Case Study

Monmouthshire County Council has two key tourist information centres that provide superb services and merchandise for visitors to Wales. Located in Chepstow and Monmouth these centres have their individual identity but share a common core of product and service.

Prior to installation Ms Kate Burton and ECR identified the key objectives which the solution was to address. Firstly, to provide fast and reliable point of sale operation. Secondly, to provide centralised product, price and stock control with each centre having its own product ranges and stock level. Thirdly, to provide comprehensive management reporting for analysis of sales, and finally to provide in-house ticket printing for special events.

Once the product range of each centre had been applied to the solution, the installation could begin. All three centres were installed in a single day. Each touch screen point of sale was connected to Monmouthshire’s wide area network. Operator training followed with Chepstow beginning to trade on the first day of installation. Monmouth and Abergavenny centres began trading in the following two days. Head office training followed and product sales information began to stream back from each of the centres.

Bar code labels are printed in-house and distributed to each centre to facilitate fast and accurate sales at the point of sale.

Kate Burton, Tourist Centre Manager for Monmouthshire, said, “We were looking for an EPoS solution which would provide reliability and speed at the point of sale. Stock control needed to be managed centrally but for individual locations. ECR ticked all the boxes. Installation was painless and professional. We now enjoy the benefits of a modern EPoS solution.”
